Lab - Trash or Treasure?

The chemical and physical separation of mixtures forms a massive portion of the world's industry.  For example, the iron ore mine shown above is the largest in the world, producing hundreds of millions of kilograms of iron every year.  Finding more efficient ways to recover materials from ore can be quite useful...and lucrative.  With that in mind, today's lab will challenge you to separate a mixture of sand, salt, gravel, and iron using differences in their chemical and/or physical properties.
